``Higashi Nihon'' (East Japan) was struck by one of the most destructive
earthquakes in history on 2011 Mar. 11. The whole nation has risen to the
task of reconstruction with the spirit of ``Ganbarou'' (``do your best and
don't give up''). Coincidentally, this minor planet was discovered on Mar. 11.

Okitsumisaki in western Kochi prefecture is a small promontory jutting
into the Pacific Ocean. It is a well-known scenic spot with popular swimming
beaches.
■ 北上川
(32858) Kitakamigawa = 1993 BA3
Discovered 1993 Jan. 25 by T. Seki at Geisei.
Kitakamigawa is the largest river in the Tohoku district, flowing from
Iwate to Miyagi prefecture. The tsunami waves of the 2011 Mar. 11 earthquake
rushed upstream along the river.
