Reports from Geisei Observatory <July 19, 2009>

22P/Kopff, 199P/Shoemaker 4, and C/2006 W3 (Christensen)

Periodic comet 199P (Shoemaker 4) is slowly moving south at a low altitude over the sea off Geisei. It will soon become impossible to observe from Geisei's latitude.
64P Swift-Gehrels, observed for the first time in 9 years by Mr. Kadota, cannot be seen from Geisei yet because it is blocked by the forest in the northeast. It disappears when the dawn approaches.
The photograph below demonstrates the recent state of light pollution in the western sky over Geisei.
