Reports from Geisei Observatory <April 19, 2007>

96P/Machholz 1

These are the observations of Machholtz 1, which is near perihelion now. It is clear visually, but there is an indication that it may fade quickly. It was observed at a low altitude of 20 degrees above the horizon in a pre-dawn sky and there appear to be a 2.5'-diameter coma and complex tail, though it is not absolutely certain. If you could detect this comet during sweeping, you must have quite sharp vision as a comet hunter.
