Reports from Geisei Observatory <November 7, 2006>

C/2006 S5 (Hill) and P/2006 S6 (Hill)

Weather has become more stable in November, which generally has more clear days than any other months. They say that it is always clear on November 3rd and 4th every year. As predicted, we had beautiful clear days this year, too. It had been relatively warm this autumn, but today's strong seasonal cold wind has ushered in typical cool autumn weather.

The following are the positions of faint comets which were observed in October. Comets fainter than 18th magnitude require 30- to 50- minute exposures with the 60cm f/3.5 reflector. I believe that Geisei is the only observatory that has been using "primitive" film-based photographic observation in the whole wide world.

C/2006 M4 (SWAN) is reported to be maintaining its brightness. I will observe this comet tonight.
