Reports from Geisei Observatory <February 16, 2004>

• A new nebula near M78
Good weather has been continuing. Orion culminates at 20.00 (J.S.T.). From Geisei Observatory Canopus is seen shining blue in fine contrast with red lights of fishing boats going on the water of the Pacific Ocean.
I took a photograph of the area near M78 (Photograph 1). A small double nebula, which looks like a nova, is visible at 13.5 magnitude. Photograph 2 is an enlargement of the area. The large glow to the left is M78 nebula.
