Reports from Geisei Observatory <November 13, 2001>


• Photograph of C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) brightening to 8th magnitude.
LINEAR (C/2000 WM1) has suddenly brightened. At 1.30 am on November 11, it was easily visible in the 8cm finderscope almost at the zenith. The magnitude is somewhere between 8 and 9 with an easily visible tail. At the moment the tail is positioned opposite from the earth and late in November, it will lengthen. The photo was taken by the 60cm reflector with a 15-minute exposure on 6415 film.
