Reports from Geisei Observatory <July 1, 2001>

• LINEAR C/2001 A2(LINEAR) and its nucleus
This is a photograph of LINEAR taken by the 60cm telescope at 3 am on July 1. The tail (Type 1) extends to the lower right and on the original plate it overflows the frame by more than one degree. In the lower right a streamer is visible, possibly of Type III. As the motion of the comet was so fast, it was very difficult to track it accurately.
When the comet moves to the zenith, more details will be visible. You will see what it will look like in color later.
