Reports from Geisei Observatory<December 11, 2000>

• C/2000 W1(Utsunomiya-Jones)
Winter weather has arrived suddenly. Cold northerly winds are beating the dome and the sound of rustling leaves are heard. Transparency is excellent thanks to this wintry weather. C/2000 W1 is easily observed under the light of full moon in the eastern sky in twilight. With the 20cm refractor at 60x, the coma was 7' in diameter and the total magnitude was 6.9. The comet was clearly seen moving fast among the stars. I observed the comet for half an hour from 17:50 and took 9 photos with the 60cm telescope.
The comet is moving north in Sagittarius. A pair of photos taken only 3 minutes apart show its motion.
