Reports from Geisei Observatory<November 23, 2000>

• Comet McNaught-Hartely is now visible
The OAA Comet Section Reports predicted it to be bright. It was 3 degrees above the horizon in the southeast at 5:40 early in the morning of November 23. It was at magnitude 7.5 with a large coma approximately 5' in diameter. The observation by the 60cm telescope is as follows:
2000U.T R.A Decl. m1
Nov.22.86181 13 04 56.91 -32 48 21.0 7.8

This position deviates +4.6" from the orbit calculated by Mr. Muraoka in the Comet Handbook for 2000. This difference arose from the orbital elements used for calculation about one year ago.

• Observation of 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresak
2000U.T R.A Decl. m1
Nov.21.85104 12 44 28.52 -3 04 35.6 15.0 372
    22.85799 12 48 34.97 -3 23 58.5 13.2 372
This comet has brightened rapidly. Photographs by Geisei's 60cm telescope will be presented in the section "Novae in November."
