見かけ上小惑星状の天体 2000 WT_168として初期観測を出版後（MPS 23043）に、 観測は（ MPEC 2000-Y21参照）12月に彗星状の活動を示さなかったが、その後の 観測（発見前データを含む）に結合した軌道が、彗星状であることを示した。 2月13.3日UT、C. W. Hergenrotherにより、Catalinaの1.5-m 反射鏡で得られたCCD画像が、 この天体が彗星状 （R.16.3等とともに非常に集光した9" のコマとP.A.110° に8.0 "尾がある）であることを示した。 また、2月16.9日、 Klet天文台のCCD観測（0.57-m反射鏡;P.A.155°に9″の尾と 微かな不均整のコマ）や、2月17.2日に Palomar(1.5-m反射鏡;P.A.60°に15 " の かすかな滴の形をした尾）で観測された。 2000 UT R.A.
