K. J. Lawrenceの通報によると、NEATチーム(R. Bambery、 E. Helin、 S. Pravdo、
M. Hicks と R. Thickstenを含む)によるPalomarの1.2-m Schmidt望遠鏡のCCD画像から
くじら座に全光度18.1等の彗星を発見した。
NEO Confirmation Pageに公表され、他のCCD観測者によって確認された。
12月8.8日UT、J. Ticha と M.　Tichy (Klet天文台、1.06-m KLENOT望遠鏡 + CCD)の
観測では、7″のコマとP.A.45°に14″の尾が見える。
12月8.20日UT、P. R. Holvorcem(Tenagra II天文台、0.81-m f/7 Ritchey-Chretien
望遠鏡 + CCD)によると、120秒露光の3画像から、7″のコマとP.A.約55°に約14秒の尾が
見える。12月9.15日UT、F. B. Zoltowski(Tebbutt天文台、0.3-m f/3.3 Schmidt-
Cassegrain望遠鏡 + CCD)が得た画像では、拡散した15″のコマとP.A.240°に微かに尾ら
しいものが見える。

発見位置は次のとおり、
