Sebastian HoenigとXingMing Zhouは、2月6日、SOHO-LASCO C3リアルタイム画像から太陽を掠める彗星クロイツ群を発見した。SOHO-LASCO C3のデータから D.A.Bieseckerが測定し、B.G.Marsdenが放物線軌道を計算した。 発見位置は次のとおり、 2001 Feb. 06.346 UT α= 21h 52m.5 δ= -18°47′C/2001 C2( SOHO) S. Hoenig&X.-M. Zhou 尾も認められる。7日の後半にはC2コロナグラフでも確認できると思われる。 Doug. A. Bieseckerは画像よりV等級を測定した。最大光度は3.5等に達すると見られる。 Feb. 6.654 UT, V = 7.6 +/- 0.3; 6.679, V = 7.4 +/- 0.2; 6.696, V = 7.5 +/- 0.3; 6.721, V = 7.2 +/- 0.2; 6.738, V = 7.1 +/- 0.2; 6.763, V = 6.8 +/- 0.1; 6.779, V = 6.7 +/- 0.1; 6.821, V = 6.7 +/- 0.1; 6.846, V = 6.4 +/- 0.1; 6.863, V = 6.4 +/- 0.1; 6.888, V = 6.3 +/- 0.1; 6.904, V = 6.0 +/- 0.1, tail length 0.1 deg; 6.935, V = 6.0 +/- 0.1.
