C/2006 VZ13 (LINEAR) and 17P/Holmes
The following is an observation of C/2006 VZ13 (LINEAR),
which is brightly glowing in the evening skies. As you may have seen in
the photograph in the Diary entry of July 15, the comet is a binocular
object and moving south rapidly. By a visual observation in the 20cm refractor
at 60x the extensive, diffuse coma in a 6-7 minute diameter stood out,
but the tail could not be confirmed. The central brightening was clear
and the comet will be visible in the evening sky for a while.
17P/Holmes is brightening in the pre-dawn skies.
