Reports from Geisei Observatory <January 6, 2005>


• P/2004 VR8 (LONEOS), C/2004 U1 (LINEAR), and C/2004 Q2 (Machholz)
   Comet Machholz was as bright as λ Tau at 3.5 magnitude at 20.00 on January 4, J.S.T. and is possibly slightly brighter tonight. Its two tails are seen separated at an angle of 135 degrees, but very faint. The tail oriented toward the sun is somewhat reddish and seems to contain heavy dust.
