Dec. 10.57674 2 16 46.81 -7 05 15.8 18.3 372
The observing conditions were not favourable. The moon was just about to set over the ocean in the southwest and the comet's position was low in the southern sky. In contrast with X1's almost stellar appearance , X2 was completely fog-like with the coma 10" to 13" in diameter. The nucleus was generally fuzzy. The tail was short, only about 1' long in PA 75 degrees.

The total magnitude was 11.5 and the diameter 2' in the 20cm refractor at 60x at 22.00, December 9. The photograph was taken by the 60cm reflector exposed for 15 minutes from 21:52 to 22:07 using the Metcalf method of guiding. It is destined to become extinct on February 18, 2003, when it passes perihelion within 0.1 A.U.
