The nucleus was star-like but slightly diffuse. It was bright enough for 25x15cm binoculars if you looked for it carefully. There is enough angular distance from the sun (60 degrees) now for easy observation. The precise measurement is provided below:
The photo was taken by tracking the comet with a 12-minute exposure on 6415 film.
