Reports from Geisei Observatory<November 24, 2000>

Comet McNaught-Hartely has been brightening as predicted. I observed it for the first time at 5.40 am with the 20cm refractor on November 24. It was at magnitude 6.5 softly shining in bright twilight. The coma was 5' across and a slight elongation was detected on the northwest side (upper right). This was the first photograph of this comet taken at Geisei with the 60cm telescope. It was taken at 5.40 am on November 23 with a 2-minute exposure.
